The Immediate Impact of a Breathwork Class
Breathwork is the newest trend to hit the wellness market. From celebrities to psychotherapist, it seems everyone is increasingly using the breath to delete the negative programming and thoughts which hold us back from feeling alive, well, and in tune with our highest thinking patterns and truths. So why is it a hot topic, if breathing is something all humans do naturally? The answer lies in the human desire to improve quality of life by ensuring optimal mental and physical health, and the breath is both a natural and immediate remedy.
The breath offers to us an ancient practice with modern methods for maximizing every moment of our day. Humans take 20,000-30,000 breaths a day. Imagine this…. 1% of those breaths transform into a full breath where we open and relax, release and let go, creating an expansion of human potential. There is nothing - N O T H I N G - as accessible, immediate and free as the breath. But that’s not all… there’s more available to us than taking a deep breath under stress.
We live in a society where it’s challenging to show up as our truest selves, to be in the absence of negative thoughts, and to live free from judgement. This common, even if unhealthy, lifestyle breeds doubt, overwhelm, and anxious thoughts which begin in childhood and often remain indefinitely. Medication is useful to override these patterns, however sometimes our conditioned responses have a way of seeping back into our lives.
Enter the complimentary modality of breathwork. Breathwork is growing faster than when the asana practice of yoga became mainstream and for good reason. Breathwork is more than a trend. It’s a time honored tradition that has the capacity to eliminate spontaneous body response to everyday triggers. The breath helps to transform beliefs such as, “I’m not good enough.” “Life is hard.” “I am too much.” “I must be perfect to be loved,” and many more. The root of mental health disorders can stem from subconscious thought patterns which run in our mind as unnoticed background noise.
As a human who has weaved in and out of depression much of my life, I’ve become intimate with the struggle of waking in the morning to the vivacious greeting from negative thoughts. Pushing these thoughts aside - whether they are about self or the day ahead - is an energy drain. This level of exhaustion is challenging to manage when the feet have yet to hit the floor! Never mind the ingrained expectation to put on a smile and go about your day as if the world inside your mind is pretty, light, and everything you dream of.
One of the greatest gifts of the breath is self-love - a dance in which your spiritual connection and your physical body merge and a wave of energy lights you up from the inside out. Self-love is more than taking care of your physical body, it is embodying your greatest asset, TRUST of self and inner knowing. We can breathe in a specific way that takes us into sympathetic nervous system, and do a deep cleaning of automatic stress responses that have been learned over time; stress responses that are not normal but have become our normal. Just as a deep cleaning of you home is immediate and transformative, so is a deep clearing of learned responses to stress. As humans who love immediate gratification, it’s no wonder breathwork - done in a way to eliminate patterned responses which impairs overall wellness - is on trend and creating massive shifts both physically and mentally.
The great news is working with the breath can be done anywhere. The breath improves clarity, creativity, confidence, connection (with self and others), and gives you the courage to take action on all the things you know will make your life better, but fear or exhaustion have kept you from doing. When you show up to a breathwork class with an open mind and bring a sense of playfulness to the breath, you can create massive shifts.
Outdated ways of thinking are holding you back. What happens within you is a direct reflection of what is happening around you. Having a sudden shift in thoughts and emotions can also create the greatest shift in your life. You’re worth that.

All other participants will be taken through breathing practices that include expansive, conscious connected breathing techniques which are different from the normal breathing patterns we use throughout the day.
