Where There is a Mother, There is Magic
Mothering doesn't always have to come from the mother.
This moment is so crystal clear in my memory mind. We were hiking back from a moment that filled me with anxiety, Annagrace was wanting to climb on every rock, and we were at the back of the pack and I could no longer hear my son ahead with his friends. I felt my irritation stirring. Nothing needed to be said, nothing had to happen but life. Annagrace dropped my hand, looked me in the eyes, and then reached out for this mama's hand. This beautiful mama didn't miss a beat. She took her hand without saying a word and they walked. I breathed. My irritation was replaced with deep gratitude. And that was that. Our children know. If we trust their actions, all is well.
